Glass and wood and stone and clay and. . .oh my. GANM member Rago Auctions will hold one of its thrice-yearly Lambertville Arts and Crafts + Modern Design auctions on January 19 (early 20th century) and 20 (modern design).

Glass by Lino Tagliapietra, Dale Chihuly, Nancy Callan, Toots Zynsky, Marvin Lipofsky, Nancy Callan, GANM member Flo Perkins, and many other accomplished artisans? Yes! Paperweights by the renowned Paul Stankard? Yes!

As the night-time TV ads say, "But wait. There's more!" Remarkable works of furniture art, jewelry, serving dishes, stoneware, and earthenware by top artists from around the world.

The auction takes place both online from now through January 18, and then concludes with the live auctions at 8 a.m. (10 EST) on the 19th and 20th.

You can see the catalogs for both auctions here. The catalogs are a visual tour of works by the world's leading artisans in glass and other media. If you makeglass, you'll see what the best can be; if you collect glass, you'll see something you'll want.

The Albuquerque International Sunport is hosting a three-month display of glass art by artist and gallery members of GANM.

Featuring almost all New Mexico artists, this is believed to be the largest exhibit of glass art ever featured in the state. The works run the gamut in terms of styles and techniques.

The exhibit also features a seven-minute film on "Ways of Shaping Glass," an ultraviolet box with "Glass that Glows," and examples of "Glass Made by Nature" including fulgurites (glass made by lightning strike), tektites (glass made by a meteor impact), obsidian (volcanic glass), and two prehistoric knives shaped from obsidian.

Visitors to the exhibit are encouraged to take with them a copy of the exhibit brochure, which offers information about glass art, a list of GANM member galleries where glass art is on display, and locations where anyone can be a "momentary artist" by taking a class and making glass art objects.

For more information, see the exhibit page.

The Corning Museum of Glass is a home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of glass, the world’s foremost library on glass, and one of the top glassworking schools in the world.

The museum invites applications for its Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) residency program. Artists spend a month at The Studio exploring new directions in glassmaking or expanding on their current bodies of work while using the immense resources of the world’s leading glass museum. Transportation, as well as room and board, is provided for those selected to participate. Each resident is offered a generous supply budget and a shared studio space. Residents can access the Rakow Research Library, The Corning Museum of Glass collection, and expert Museum staff. A residency manager will serve as liaison to additional services in Corning and the Museum.

During the residency, artists are expected to do their work. Each artist presents their work during a free public event in The Studio Lecture Room. Residencies occur in March, April, May, October, and November. One or two individuals are selected for each month.

Applicants who identify as BIPOC artists are welcome to apply.

Complete program guidelines and application instructions are here.

On Tuesday, May 17, at noon AACG will host an online program featuring artist Michael Meilhan.Meilahn’s work has been exhibited and collected in museums across the United States and internationally.

Meilhan's work is currently the subject of an amazing solo exhibition at the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass in Neenah, Wisconsin. Titled Primordial Shift and the Art of Michael Meilahn, a Retrospective, this exhibition tracks Meilhan's artist trajectory from the 1970s to present day, spanning three galleries within the museum. The core of the exhibition is an immersive multimedia installation, Primordial Shift, that intertwines the artist’s investigation into crop production, genetic food modification, and the ancient history of corn.

Meilhan discovered glassblowing at the University of Wisconsin River Falls and then studied with German glass legend Erwin Eisch. After a year in the Peace Corps in Bolivia working alongside indigenous cultures and learning their agricultural traditions, he earned a Masters in Art at Illinois State University and then returned to the family farm to work the land, build a studio, and create with glass.

The program is free and open to all, with pre-registration here.
